Adult ADHD Screening
If you, or someone close to you, thinks you might have ADHD it might be difficult to know what to do next. Many people experience being turned down from either getting a referral or even receiving a diagnosis, because they have not been able to present the relevant evidence.
At ADHD Clarity Now we can guide you through the process of getting diagnosed.
In the sessions you will be screened for the symptoms that have been identified to be most relevant when diagnosing ADHD in adults. These will include the following:
Do you often:
Easily get distracted by irrelevant thoughts or diversions from the task in hand.
Make decisions impulsively.
Have difficulty stopping an activity or behaviour when you should do so.
Start a task without reading or listening to the instructions carefully enough.
Fail to follow through on promises or commitments you make to others.
Have trouble doing things in their proper sequence or order.
Drive much faster than others – or if you do not drive, have difficulty engaging in leisure activities or doing fun things quietly.
Have difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or recreational activities.
Have difficulties organising tasks or activities.
(Russell Barkley 2010)
However, many of these symptoms can also be present in other mental health disorders as well as some physical illnesses.
There are many providers of ADHD diagnoses and treatment. At ADHD Clarity Now we can explore the options for being seen, either in the NHS or through private healthcare.
We can talk you through the process, and help you gather the information needed to ensure that you receive appropriate help and support.
